How do we design a prosthetic to embrace confidence and comfort?

designing for ability

TrU is an osseointegrated prosthetic leg designed to allow the user to embrace their abilities rather than disabilities

It aims to solve current problems with osseointegrated prosthetics through form and function

I explored these solutions by working in tandem with experts in the field.

embracing one's ability through OSSEOINTEGRATION:

a prosthetic without the socket

traditional socket vs. osseointegration

Osseointegration uses a titanium rod implanted into the bone to connect the residual limb and the prosthetic leg. It is used instead of a traditional socket, removing issues of time, cost and pain.

what's missing?

Osseointegration is a great solution. But it's missing key components of a true humanistic design.

attachment method

visual relationship

stoma stability

what do I know??

I communicated back and forth with an amputee to validate my thought process and design decisions. User testing brought me to conclusions with the ergonomics of my design.

embracing disabilities through design

My final design is easy to attach to current osseointegrated posts with a quick release mechanism. Transparent materials are used to embrace the mechanisms, but designed for a beautiful transition between the residual limb and the prosthetic leg.
